The Medicaid and Child Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provides free health insurance or low-cost health insurance to millions of Americans, including low-income families, families and children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
In some countries, we have expanded Medicaid for people with special incomes.
Even if you don't qualify for Medicaid based on income, you should apply. You may qualify for your state's program, especially if you have children, are pregnant, or have a disability. You can apply for Medicaid any time of year — Medicaid and CHIP do not have Open Enrollment Periods.

Apply for Medicaid and CHIP 2 ways
1. Through the Health Insurance Marketplace
- If one of your households appears to be Medicaid or CHIP, they will send your information to a provincial representative.
- They will contact you about registration.
- When you submit a request on the Marketplace,
- you understand that you are entitled to individual insurance with income-based savings.
- Planning can be cheaper than you think.
2. Through your state Medicaid agency
You can also register directly with your Medicaid agent.
